Hardwood Honey began in 2012 with a single hive at one location. Eight years later Ross Harding manages 26 bee yards throughout Central Indiana.

Ross became enamored with honey due to its healing powers, unique flavor profiles, and the fact honey never spoils. While managing the apiaries Ross began to forage wild herbs and foods. 

The knowledge that Ross has acquired is from the countless relationships created with beekeepers (commercial, sideliner and hobbyist), academics (Purdue University), farmers, and the Beekeepers of Indiana.

To grow the hive count Ross has saved beehives from extermination at numerous locations. Swarm catching has also added to the hive count.

A decade later (2025), Hardwood Honey is featured on WISH-TV showcasing the variety of items for retail.  The same year Ross established a partnership with Corteva Agriscience. Frames of brood at various stages of the life cycle are provided for scientific research.

During race day of the 2023 Indianapolis 500, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway had honey bees swarm the stands. The IMS called upon Ross to relocate the bee swarm. The Indy Star reported on the story.

Roche Diagnostics has asked Hardwood Honey to provide bee hives and services in 2025. The bee hives will pollinate the garden and surrounding environment maintained by Roche. 

As of November 2025, Hardwood Honey has sold to 106 Indiana towns & cities. Which is acccounts for 58 of 92 Indiana counties. And shipped to 37 states plus Washington, DC.
